A quaint pub with a very 80s atmosphere, Lot Stock and Barrel has persisted in its Seah St. location for the best of 15 years with the same name. "The Lot's got the lot!"

The shop house pub has a bar / TV area in the front portion with a small pool table and darts in the back half.

I don't think darts are played here much since the area was being used for as a storage area for the kegs of Tiger. TV screens showing the very best live and classic sporting action from here, there and everywhere.

A jukebox (yes, a jukebox) stacked from top to bottom with rock and pop gems from the swinging sixties to the present day. Service with a genuine smile. A nice comfy chair to put your bum on. Scrumptious snacks. More beers, wines and spirits than you can shake a stick at. And most importantly, "Of course I'll have another pint!" prices.

Patronised by corporate types with rolled sleeves and lazy lounge types with sandals and shorts, the 500 sq ft. venue has a distinctly 'homey' feel about it; antique furniture and friendly staff, especially one Zan who was very accommodating with the Draft Tiger beer.

Incidentally, there was also Heineken, Strongbow and Kilkenny on tap. Despite the plethora of retro beer ads plastered to the walls, Miller was not served, much to my disappointment.

One of the more prominent features of the place is the jukebox, as mentioned... seriously it must be years since I seen a functional one in Singapore.

The latter, coupled with the locally carved Poseidon mast head above the bar and a garish sculpture of an armoured warrior raising his sword in triumph before a heavy bosomed maiden (Probably a Julie Bell or Boris Vallejo piece) ooze foreign appeal, it was almost like stepping into an alley bar in Europe rather than a short walk from Raffles City.

Indeed, old English style lamps adorned the side of the space with a dartboard and pool table in easy reach. A photo of the owner, Pauline Lau, 53, stroking a tiger in a Thai Zoo was taped to each side of the bar - "a customer said 'why not put it up on the wall?'" She said. Definitely a regular's place.

"We treat every customer like a friend" said Pauline, "The service is personalised."

I came in time for a set by the curiously unnamed resident band (They laughingly dubbed themselves the 'Seah street band' to me) - a veteran three piece consisting of bass (Basir), guitar (Sonny) and a saxophonist (Eddie) that doubled on percussion.

The trio performs every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with a selection of jazzy covers. "Nobody bothers you, everyone likes the setup" remarked Pauline as I enjoyed a much needed chill-out, "...and I don't think we compete with the mainstream pub scene."

The sole proprietor of the establishment for three and half years certainly made it a point to know everyone who walked in through the door.

Conveniently located in the heart of sunny Singapore, the Lot, as the regulars like to call it, is just a favourite haunt of locals and expatriates from the advertising, financial and educational sectors, it's a great place to hang out with friends and colleagues after a hard day's slog.

Just a short taxi or MRT ride away from the crowded yuppie hangouts and menu-in-your-face touts at Boat Quay, it's a must-visit if you're out and about in the business district.

If you're smart enough to get yourself down to the Lot during the Happy Hours (2 to 10pm daily), a refreshing pint of Tiger Beer will hit the spot. Or if you're planning a big night out with your mates, you can pick up a jug of Tiger and they've also got Strongbow at and Kilkenny, not bad eh!

So if you fancy a night out in a charming, friendly and down-to-earth environment, make a trip down to the Lot, Stock & Barrel and enjoy some good old-fashioned elbow bending.

Try a pie with a mug of 'super cold' Tiger Beer and catch your sports live from ESPN and ABC (for Rugger). You wont be alone in the Lot stock and Barrel.
