Emotan is the name of a mythical African figure who is now the "soul of Benin", a city in modern-day Nigeria. A melancholy and forlorn figure she is the patron saint of a new bar in Vinohrady that calls lonely wanderers into its warmth.

V
ictor Alile, formerly the manager of Marquis de Sade, opened the little bar with his girlfriend Klara Smolova and they have it decorated with sparse but engaging memories of Africa ranging from the captivating photos of a local journalist's travels around Kenya and Ethiopia to more traditional African folk art.

A small space, Emotan is nevertheless trying to stir up business with Happy Hour specials and weekend parties with both live music and DJs spinning (plus free campari for the ladies).

Full of funky Czech students coupling in corners, Emotan pays tribute to its namesake while it vanquishes her lonely legacy.
