A great dive with thumping music keeping you company in its street-level pub, while those nursing a throbbing headache might opt for some soothing live jazz in the cavern below.

I
t is there you can probably find Glenn himself, serving out tap beer to swarming guzzlers with commendable calm and cool.

If you're not much of a beer drinker, but would like to go to a bar for some decent food, a nice cocktail and cool jazz, you have found a home. The staff and customers here heartily recommend the pitas, but a beer with your meal will only cost you an extra 35Kc.

The upstairs crowd is mostly Czech drinkers and the occasional embassy late-nighters, but if you travel downstairs, you're in for some soul stirring live music, or at least a serious jazz experience.

And this jazz is quality, considering there's often no cover charge at the door and it's very easy to interact with the band in the cavern-like basement.

The live music area is cozy and relaxed, fitting only seven or eight small tables which make a nice private audience for the band who tucks itself in a little corner and does its thang.

The Glena's food menu is small but packs a punch, including exotic dishes like Sambal Udang - midnight snackers will be happy to know that the kitchen is open till late, but party music might just get in your face, urging you on.

The thumping hip-hop tunes don't exactly blend with the Irish bar atmosphere and the calm, chatty, all-white crowd, but I was glad to hear it nonetheless. The upstairs is wooden and open, offering a well-stocked bar as well as a surprisingly talented kitchen.

The downstairs is a bit more cramped, but whatever the design is should be kept, because it carries the thumpy blues riffs nicely into the ear.

I couldn't be sure through the smoke, but the relaxed and swaying crowd seemed to be nodding in agreement.
