S
cruffy Murphy's on the East Coast was the first stop, Happy Birthday was the tone of the night. This was the first major party thrown at Scruffy's and what a party it was. Located opposite the beach on the East Coast, there were pirates 'a plenty. Lots of eye patches, bandannas and plenty of joviality set the scene for many acts of piracy.

With beer and rum flowing, the shipmates were un-stressed, Captain Billy McDonald was at the helm and in fine form, with an eye patch and a pirates hat, he was leading his crew by example... a drinking example that was... Here's to another year of piracy at Scruffy Murphys' AHOJ!

A few days later the Mexican Festival started, Friday & Saturday 8th/9th September saw the first weekend of the Singapore Mexican Festival at Chijmes, (30 Victoria Street).

The Ballet Folklorico de Veracruz amazed the crowd with their dazzling costumes, faultless choreography. The night was enjoyable with Patron Tequila setting the scene, after all, what is a Mexican fiesta without tequila, it would be like going to a casino in Singapore.

On Saturday evening, the Mexican Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Juan Jose Gomez Camacho and his family joined in the celebrations.

More details on Mexican culture can be found at www.embamexsing.org.sg. The festivities continued with the Mexican National Reception at The Regent Singapore.

The evening was perfectly orchestrated with many local celebrities and other Ambassadors. Patron Tequila again graced the evening with a huge tequila ice luge that saw the best of us off.

Margaritas were definitely the drink of the night, with a caballero attitude only the best of us were left standing. Food was in abundance with enough enchiladas and fajitas to impress even the hearty eaters in all of us. The night was in the best way 'Simply Perfect'... off to Gotham.

At Gotham Penthouse, Friday saw the Black Fusion Party at Gotham Penthouse at Clarke Quay. With Johnny Walker, (the whiskey, not the General Manager of Asia Pacific Beverages), setting the scene, it was a momentous occasion, scotch a flowing, girls a plenty, great music and atmosphere, the crowd enjoyed themselves.

The new chill-out room at the rear allows those that want to talk, to do just that, a bit hard to do with the high level base in the main room. Happy Birthday to Peter de' Cruz who really showed people how to celebrate!!! A few days later we were in the mood to party again, after all, it is a Lush Life, so we decided to do something different.

Este The Club in Clarke Quay promised something unusual, local entertainment with a western attitude. September saw the departure of Crystal, and hello to Fantasy. After a year at Este, Crystal will be moving to pastures new. Fantasy will bring a new life to the entertainment at Este who cater to the Local Chinese and expatriate markets alike.

For some truly traditional Chinese club entertainment & a local experience come down. As a regular at Este The Club, I will be interested in what Fantasy can do. Kelvin, Kachi, Karen and the rest of the troupe will be missed, and I wish you all the best in your new venue.

Hideout sets the scene as a, yes, a Hideout! A Hideout from the mainstream clubs and all the pretentiousness that goes with them. This is one of those gems that comes along rarely. It is tucked away somewhere on Circular Road above the feet of passers by.

A small bijou joint with great sounds from local DJ's, a small but well equipped bar, a generous seating area, Oh... and yes... great, and I do mean great people.

With an English/Aussie style, you get the best of both worlds. Open till late at the weekends, you can even party with Andre and James at 6AM on weekends should you feel the desire to chill-out after your time in those other mainstream clubs that need to remain nameless.

Where is it? Well after all it is called Hideout, so, find out I did! During an evening in mid September several of us decided to grace Chijmes. Bobbys' Taproom Bar Grill, formerly Bobby Rubino's, proclaims to be the only true smoking bar in Singapore, YEA!!!

A whole bar that you can relax, drink, eat and smoke in! Located in Chijmes, this place is a must, pool table and comfy sofas that you will not want to get up from, and service with a smile so you don't need to. Bar food a plenty, drinks galore , music to listen to and still have a conversation with that important date, this is a place to get to know..the bar & each other.

A true place to meet friends at the start of an evening, open till late it is also the place to chill after that heavy meal you have just had. It certainly was a lush life this past month, with parties a many, friends a new and many new places to try.

Do you know a place that we don't? Send us a listing and we may pay it & you a visit. If we do & we meet you there, we buy the first drink. Send to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
