A friend of mine celebrated her 21st birthday in Prague a while back...

sign of drinking too much

t
he evening's end was signaled by my friend sitting in the gutter saying over and over again, "Why are we leaving?"

An hour before she had been accusing me of attempting to get her more drunk by spiking her Red Bulls.

In Prague you go out to lunch and all of the sudden you are smashed. I wondered for a while whether it was just lowly American girls who were making a mockery of themselves, but I quickly realized that the level of drunkenness achievable in Prague does not discriminate. All genders and ethnicity are welcome to get as loaded as can be.

One of my favorite things about alcohol is that it always makes you want to keep on keepin' on. Like every night in Prague has to be a f*cking beer tour. I am reminded of many nights in Prague where I just had to keep going.

The night I ended yet another booze filled afternoon with an evening of merriment on the river, one look at the water spewing out the back motors and I narrowly avoided emptying all my contents off the stern by grabbing a pole for two hours.

All the while being accosted by Vlad, the sweaty Rusky who apparently thinks green American girls are attractive. Glad I made that journey.

I was also glad I had gone to Ujezd that night, but not so glad when I was being carried out barely an hour later. The pot had made everything into a great little movie for me, but my friends were all being their little American girl selves and screaming about having to get me out of there. I was sure I was fine.

The guys at the bar said it was fine for me to stay slumped in the men's room for a long as I needed. I never saw their faces, but I thought they were the only ones making sense. Still I wanted to rally on.

Living a lifestyle where these occurrences are simply blips on a radar screen that is usually very quiet is just what I have become assimilated to. I have had more good nights in Prague than anywhere else. The first time I crossed the Charles bridge at dawn and met some crazy Germans who had just awakened from a nap in the park was a great night. Every time I have go back to the states and I get appropriately buzzed the night before, it is always considered a great night.

Nights like these makes me want to gorge a Smazeny Syr (fried cheese) and then pass out quickly. Besides, what's wrong with a personal mantra that includes the phrase, "Mental Note: the bathroom at Chateau Rouge is a good place to pass out."
